FlaiChat

Automatic, instant translation inside group chats is the core of FlaiChat, a chat app built with multilingual families in mind.

Everyone writes in their own language and reads the conversation in theirs.

Voice translation goes a step further, letting you hear your own voice in other languages.

FlaiChat is also an AI chatbot and assistant with task management built in, so you can set tasks and reminders in the same place where the family is already talking.

It runs on iOS and Android, and signup needs no phone number or email, which is unusual for a messaging app.

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest but not end-to-end, so it is not the pick for sensitive conversations.

Groups top out at around 100 members, which is plenty for a family.

Audio and video calling are not available yet, though they were planned for 2024.

If your family mostly texts across languages, the translation will matter more than anything missing.
